A wild group named Balrog were observed on the eastern border of the study area since 1994 but was not habituated until 2001. The dominant male of the group was named Balrog and was thought to be 4-6 years old, The group has a very interesting history, with many unsuccesfull breeding attempts and 2 rare incidents of immigrating females. The group was observed for a total of 13 years, however on 2007 despite the immigration of unrelated females, the group perished and was considered lost.

[edit] Dominance in Balrog

Luella and Balrog were the first dominant couple in Balrog, after Luella's death, Mandella took over but she was run over by a car and five evicted Vivian females kicked out the last subourdinate female and took over, After a long dominant feud betwwen Velvet and Viv'e, Velvet became the next dominant female, after two years she died and a feud began between 11 month old Mussolini and 9 Month old Babbelas, Babbelas wins and becomes the youngest dominant female in the history of the KMP. Balrog soon died and natal male Mbabane took dominance. However he soon left the mob, Stinker then became dominant male for five days until Chino and two other wild males took over, Chino established dominance but after a few months both he and Babbelas died of tuberculosis. Priscilla then took female dominance and Vivian immimgrant male Boba took male dominance. After Priscilla's death, Mussolini finally took dominance. After Boba's death there were no other dominant males, when Mussolini died of tuberculosis, a wild female named Wildkat took dominance. She was the last dominant female, she disappeared soon after.

The Balrog mob's territory was on the eastern part of the research area bordering the Vivian , Gattaca, Whiskers and Commandos.However closely related to eachother their main rivals were Vivian, who consistently raided their breeding burrows and territory. In 2001, Whiskers females Risca and Wahine and Vivan males formed a gang called Gattaca which also were a problem as the formed right on Balrog territory, they managed to keep their new territory and slowly grew into a bigger problem, another splinter of Whiskers Asphodel also formed on Balrog Territory, but unlike Gattaca they were chased away and couldn't survive for long. When the Balrog mob became extinct, Both Vivian and Gattaca followed, The Commandos, who had consistently been bullied by Whiskers moved east into the vacated territory left by the Balrog and more recently Hoax

• 2001: Balrog are habituated and consist of Twenty two meerkats, Balrog is the dominant male. The oldest Balrog Female luella establishes female dominance. luella aborts, Luella gives birth to Jacaranda, Sobantu, Kali, Mbabane and Mojadji. she aborts again
• 2002: Lulla looks very sick and dissapears, there are only two female members in the balrog the rest are males. One of the two females, Mandella, is run over by a car, a group of 5 vivan females (Velvet, Viv'e, Uacari, Mangaby and Sifaka immigrates into the gang kicking out the last female. Velvet and viv'e compete for dominant female position, velvet wins. All five vivan females are pregnant but only Viv'es and Mangaby's pups survive, they include Repuzel, Gretal, Cinders and Hansel. Gattaca forms in unsused territory, Ashodel forms in unused territory but are chased away.
• 2003: A balrog male dies of TB, Velvet aborts. Viv'e aborts twice, Velvet loses her litter. Uacari a Vivian female gives birth but the litter is lost. The three younger vivian females are evicted and leave. another male dies of TB. Velvet, Viv'e both loose their litters
• 2004: Velvet loses her litter, Gretal is evicted and loses her litter, cinders gives birth but her litter is lost. Viv'e gives birth to three pups Castro, Gadafi and Mussolini. Velvet gives birth to Babbelas, Babbalina and two others which are predated predated. Velvet Aborts.
• 2005: Velvet gives birth to priscilla, Ford Doolittle and Irish, viv'e is evicted and dissapears. Velvet gives birth and dies shortly afterwards, the litter is lost. The two oldest females Mussolini and babbelas are very young. Mussolini gives birth to Audrey, Bradley, Numpty and Graham, Babbelas becomes the youngest dominant female. Balrog dies, Mbabane takes male dominance. Babbelas and Babbalina both give birth to 6 pups, 4 of them are killed, only Busta and Dirty Sanchez survive. Mbabane, shongolongo and all other adult males leave. Stinker becomes dominant male for 5 days. Mussolini gives birth to Willow, Acer, Afrika Bambarta and Widow Twanky, babbelas gives birth but the pup is predated, babbalina aborts. Three wild males Chino, Lause and Bengal immigrate
• 2006: The wild males and babbellas die of TB, Pricsilla takes dominance. Mussolini, pricsilla and Babbalina all give birth but only pricsillas pup Champ survives. Chino and Babbalina die of TB. Seven Vivan males immigrate, the three oldest; Hannible, Kudo and Boba fight for dominance but Boba wins, the other males go back to Vivian. Priscilla dies of TB, Mussolini takes dominance. Mussolini gives birth to Willow, Woody, Owlet and Twilight and aborts her next litter.
• 2007: Basta and four other adults die of TB. Audrey gives birth but her litter is killed by Vivian, Mussolini gives birth while something happens in the burrow leading to the loss of mussolini's pups and Audrey. Boba is predated. A wild female called wilkat and a young ones female called tequila who formed the PQ Mob immigrate into the tiny group. Mussolini Balrog and two other males die of TB. there are only 3 members left,Wildkat, woody and Tequila. Tequila dies and both Woody and Wildkat Dissapear, Balrog is now considered lost.

The oldest and first dominant female of habituated Balrog, she had two aborted litters her dominance reign and one surviving litter on the fifteenth to the thirty-first 2001. The litter consisted of Jacaranda, Sobantu, Kali, Mojadji and Mbabane who later become natal dominant male of the Balrog. She became sick and dissapeared later in the year

The Dominant male of the gang, the mob was named after him. certanly fathered Luellas last litter and was dominant for a really long time in Balrog. He died on the third of May 2005 and was thoguht to have died of old age

She was one of the five Vivian females to immigrate into the gang kicking out Jacaranda and establishing dominance over her littermate sister Viv'e. after a year of abortions and infanticide Velvet had her first litter on the twelfth of May 2004 to Babbales, Babbalina and two pups who were predated, her next litter consisted of Priscilla, W. Ford Doolittle and Irish. On February 2005 she lost her litter, was in bad condition and never came out of the burrow.

She was one of the five Vivian females to immigrate into Balrog, she had a long battle against her littermate sister Velvet but lost. her fisrt litter was a mixed litter with Mangaby which included Gretel, Cinders. Rapunzel and Hansel. after a year of abortions and infanticide she managed to give birth to Mussolini, Gaddafi and Castro. On November 2004 she was evicted and dissapeared.

Born to Velvet the dominant female, Babbelas became dominant female at nine months old fighting her 11 month old cousin Mussolini and giving herself the title of youngest dominant female in the KMP. She had a mixed litter with her littermate sister Babbalina on May 2005 which included Dirty Sanchez, Busta and 4 pups who were killed in a raid by a wild group. She died of tubercolosis on February 2006.

Born to Viv'e after a year of unsuccesful breeding attempts. her litter mates were castro and gadafi. when she was 11 months old she lost a dominance fight to her 9 month old sister Babbelas and later to her even younger sister priscilla, after priscilla's death mussolini finally took over, She died of tubercolosis on early April 2007. her children include Audrey, Bradley, Graham, Numpty, Acer, Afrika Bambarta, Widow Twanky, Twilight, Owlet, Willow and Woody.

Evicted from her family, Tequila teamed up with her sister and two Lazuli males Shoy and JD to form a short lived group called PQ, the males, taking tequila' s young son Shady. She then teamed up with a wild female named wildkat and was allowed to join the Balrog gang. she was one of the final members but died of tubercolosis in April 2007.
